The Legion d'Honneur was established in France at the begining of the 19th century by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The version offered is the version awarded between 1852 and 1870 during the French Second Empire of Napoleon III. It is virtually identical to the original 1st Empire model of the Napoleonic era. This excellent quality full sized example of the Grand Officer or Grand Cross breast star is die struck and has has a pleasing semi matt silvered finish. It is fitted with the large pin and 2 attachment hooks typically found on these large breast stars.
