The Legion d'Honneur was established in France at the begining of the 19th century by Napoleon Bonaparte.

The version offered is the post 1870 issue which was awarded during both WW1 and WW2.
It was replaced after WW2 by the current version which has had the date date '1870' removed from the design. This excellent quality full sized example of the Grand Officer or Grand Cross breast star is die struck and has has a pleasing semi matt silvered finish. It is fitted with the large pin and 2 attachment hooks typically found on these large breast stars.
