Imperial German WWI Stormtrooper Badge - circular type.
A variety of unofficial badges were worn by members of the elite German Stormtroop or 'Sturmtruppen' units that were established during WWI. The designs nearly always featured the iconic German stick grenade, the famous stahlhelm and the deathshead. This is one of the most striking examples that we have encountered. This heavy insignia is die struck and is of very high quality, having very fine detail and finishing, unlike many of the other types that we have seen. It is domed to accentuate the relief of the design and has a tarnished silvered finish . The reverse is stamped with the makers mark GAHR Munchen (hidden under the nice hand fabricated pin. A rarely seen and very attractive piece. Dimensions 43 x 43mm.
