The Distinguished Flying Cross is a was established on July 2, 1926 and is awarded to any persons who, after April 6, 1917, while serving in any capacity with the U.S.A.F. , distinguish themselves by single acts of heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight
The D.F.C. was awarded retrospectively for actions during WWI and subsequently through WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
