WWI French Air Force 'Cicogne' or Stork Escadrille Badge of SPA 103.

Originally designated as Brequet Escadrille 17, this unit was formed on 2nd August 1914 at Longvic, France. The escadrille was cited for its valor on 27 May 1915 by General Foch. Foch would issue a second citation on 19 September 1915, based on the bombing raids of the 13th on Lugwigshafen. One of its aces Rene Fonck was the highest Allied fighter pilot of WW1.

The stork was designed by Major Felix Brocard the commander of Combat Group 12 of which this squadron formed part.

This extremely high quality solid silver insignia of the squadron measures 56mm x 24mm. It has a jewelry type pin and is hallmarked on the reverse with the makers name and silver content stamp.
