SPANISH CIVIL WAR WOUND BADGE- SILVER GRADE: HOLLOW PIERCED TYPE. ORIGINAL QUALITY.

This version of the wound badge was established in 1939 as an award for those members of the Legion Condor who were wounded in action during the Spanish Civil War. The design was based on the WW1 wound badge with the addition of a swastika placed in the centre of the steel helmet. This form of the wound badge continued to be issued in the early stages of WWII until supplies of the 1939 wound badge became available. This is an exceptional quality example of this early wound badge being hollow stamped from sheet brass.

The version offered also has the area behind the helmet and swords fretted out by hand- this being an option available on private purchase examples of this award. Complete with steel pin. Finished in silver plate.
