WWII German Kriegsmarine Navy Officer of the Watch Metal Badge with slider fittings

Stamped in brass, and then gilded. This badge is in excellent condition with a little bit of minor toning. It has a slider type clip on the back with a heavily soldered joint - presumably to add strength as this badge would have been transfered between crew members as they went on watch duty.

There would generally only be one or two of these for each vessel, or shore facility. They were not issued to individuals. In the reference book "Torpedos Los!" by Gordon Williamson (published in 2006), this badge is number 124 in their list of insignia. Worn on left breast.

The badge is marked on back of slide with 'Stylised "A"' which indicates the maker as F.W. Assmann und Söhne of Lüdenscheid.

These badges are often offered for hundreds of pounds, but because we have managed to purchase a small quanity, in Germany, we are able to offer these at a very reasonable price while stock lasts. We also have a few of these badges with lug fittings instead of a slider; please see our other listing for this type.

The insignia measures 52.0mm x 65.3mm, and weighs 20g.
