Prototype model 2008 German Iron Cross 1st class. In 2008 it was proposed that the Iron Cross should be re established as an award for bravery and bestowed upon German military personel serving in Afghanistan. Designs and samples were created and submitted. Ultimately it was decided that the Iron Cross, because of its previous association, was not an appropriate award and the plans were scrapped.
This example is die struck in one piece. It has a black painted centre and a matt silver finish. Reverse is fitted with a flat pin that is stamped with the makers code number
