This was the first of the British campaign awards for the Great War. It was established in 1917 and was bestowed on members of the initial British Expeditionary force in France and Belgium between 5th August 1914 and 22-23rd November 1914, subsequently known as 'The Old Contemptibles'. This attractice medal is die struck in bronze with a pleasing patinated finish and is supplied with a length of the correct red, white and blue watered ribbon.
The 1914 Star is the 'Pip' from the 'Pip, Squeek and Wilfred' medal trio.
