War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords. Screwback.
Instituted on the 11th October 1939 and awarded for military or civilian merit not involving front line combat service. The version with swords was awarded for bravery or merit which involved exposure to physical danger. This version is fitted with the screwback fitting.
