American WW2 U.S.A.F. 509th C.G. 58th Wing ENOLA GAY Nuclear Bomber cloth patch.

This patch was worn on the flying jackets or overalls by members of the 509 Composite Group of the 58th Wing.

This unit was activated in December 1944 and was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Paul W. Tibbets. The famous B29 Superfortress, also commanded by Tibbets, dropped the first nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on the 6th August 1945.

This specific version of the patch was adopted after the dropping of the nuclear bomb. This large patch is embroidered in cream, red and golden yellow cotton on blue drill.

Excellent, almost new condition. This item measures 117mm in diameter (or 4.5" in diameter).
