U.S. Army Vietnam War CIA 'Operation Phoenix' Grim Reaper Cloth Patch

Operation Phoenix was instigated by the CIA with an aim to, ' destabalize, neutralize, capture and kill ' members of an organization the CIA called the VCI (Viet Cong Infrastructure ). It was designed to disrupt any civilian activity that supported the VC south of the DMZ - this included people that supplied guides, helped with VC conscription, foods and storage dumps The CIA turned the Operation over to the US Army and the ARVN in 1968 and continued to operate until 1972.

This patch was by US and RVN soldiers working on Operation Phoenix. It is embroidered in black cotton on cream cotton drill and has the typical raw edge. It measures 87mm in diameter. It is perfectly round - the photo gives the wrong impression.

In excellent condition with some very minor staining.
