The Peenemunde research centre was founded in 1937 as one of five military proving grounds under the Army Weapons Office. It achieved notoriety as the home of the V1 and V2 missiles- Hitlers Terror Weapons that were aimed at the UK in 1944 and 1945. It was considered a high priority target and was repeatedly bombed by the allies. This badge was worn by authorised workers at the Peenemunde site. It id die struck from silvered metal with a red painted finish. The front is stamped with a unique identification number. The reverse is marked Ges.Gesch and is fitted with a pin fixing.
