The 'Militär-Verdienstorden' was Bavarias main decoration rewarding bravery and military merit and was bestowed on officers and higher-ranking officials. The swords denote a war time award.
This example of the 1st class breast star award consists of an enamel and gilt badge mounted together with a large set of gilt swords onto a large silver plated star measuring approximately 8.8cm point to point.
It is fitted a heavy German style pin fastener on the reverse
