WW2 WWII Free French 1er Battalion Marine Commando beret badge.

The 1er Bataillon de Fusiliers Marins Commandos was a Free French Commando unit that served during WWII. Initially its Commandant was Lieutenant de Vaisseau Phillippe Keifer under whose command they participated in the Normandy landings.

Original insignias of this unit are incredibly rare. The insignia offered here was probably made in the 1960s. It is said that a few hundred examples of this insignia were made for the movie 'The Longest Day'. - probably as promotional items as they are not worn in the actual movie. It's possible that this is one of those badges- It is struck in bronze with a nicely aged finish. The reverse has British style lugs and is marked 'Made in England'. IT IS NOT AN ORIGINAL WW2 ISSUE badge but it as near to an original that you will find!

A nice quality badge at as near to an original that you will find!
