German WWI Goetz satirical medallion depicting the downing of the Zeppelin L19 in 1916.

On Thursday 3rd February 1916, the Grimsby steam trawler King Stephen came across a disabled Zeppelin whilst out fishing in the North Sea. The crew of the L19 airship begged to be taken on board the trawler, but the captain William Martin refused. This heavy solid bronze medallion by the famous German medallist condemns the abandoning of the downed Airship crew by the British. Karl Goetz produced a series of distinctive propaganda medals including the famous 'Lusitania' medal of 1915. 55mm diameter.
