The Order of the Black Eagle (Hoher Orden vom Schwarzen Adler) was the highest Prussian Order of chivalry. It was founded on 17 January 1701 by Elector Friedrich III of Brandenburg (who became Friedrich 1st King in Prussia, the following day).
From its founding in 1701 to 1918, the Order of the Black Eagle was awarded 407 times, In 1918, the knights of the order totaled 118. Subjects of the Prussian King receiving the order were promoted to the peerage and received hereditary title.

The order was bestowed in one class only. The insignia consisted of a sash badge and breast star.

This impressive enameled breast star breast star measures approximately 8.8 cm point to point and fastens on the back with a pin. A lovely quality replica of this quite beautiful award.
