The Iron Crescent was an award instituted by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed Reshad V in 1915. Awarded for gallantry in battle, the decoration was given to Ottoman and other Central Powers troops in Ottoman areas of engagement. It was official titled the Ottoman War Medal, but was also known as the Gallipoli Star. Germany referred to it as the Eiserner Halbmond, which translates to Iron Crescent.
This beautiful example is die struck with red enamel and a polished silvered finish. The reverse is fitted with a high quality flat pin fitting.
